Aalburg: Pearl on the river Maas in Noord-Brabant.

The municipality of Aalburg is located in Noord-Brabant in the “Land van Heusden en Altena” and consists of seven villages: Babylonienbroek, Drongelen, Eethen, Genderen, Meeuwen, Veen en Wijk en Aalburg. Each of the villages has its own charm.

Surface area: 5.316 ha. Number of inhabitants: 12.385.

In Aalburg, surrounded by the river Maas, you will find a beautiful countryside, where you can still enjoy yourself in peace and quiet. It is possible to make several marked cycling-tours in the area.

Babylonienbroek is the smallest, but also a picturesque village. There are beautiful authentic farms. In the neighbourhood of Babylonienbroek is a nature reserve "Het Pompveld". You can make a guided (walking) tour through this reserve during the months may, june, july en august every Saturday morning.

Drongelen is located near the Bergsche Maas. During World War II most of this village was destroyed. The village is the starting point for a walking tour called "rondom Meeuwen" . The tour is about 22 km.

Eethen has a monumental church which is beautiful located in the centre of the village. It also has a war statue.

Just outside the village Genderen there is an outdoor swimming pool and a lawn tennis club. In the village there are several monumental buildings, one of them is the church.

In Meeuwen you can find a mill, called "De Witte Molen". A few years ago the mill has been restaurated en replaced. In the centre of the village there is a monumental church.

Veen is one of the largest of the seven villages. It is located near the river Maas. This village is wellknown for its commerce. (flowers, plants, eggs). In Veen you can also find a mill and some monumental buildings.

Wijk en Aalburg is the largest of the seven villages. It is beautiful located on the river Maas. It has a camping site and a small harbour. The bridge between Wijk en Aalburg and Heusden offers a nice view. In the centre of the village there are several monumental buildings and a mill. Wijk en Aalburg offers many facilities, from which the whole municipality of Aalburg can profit. Every Tuesday afternoon there is a market.
